CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Ascension Saint Thomas has announced a fourth partner on their 96-acre healthcare campus in Clarksville: Lifepoint Rehabilitation plans to build a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, pending state approval.

The facility will be the third such joint venture hospital between the two organizations, providing care for adult patients recovering from serious conditions, according to a press release.

“Integrating this specialized rehabilitation hospital into our comprehensive health campus, Ascension Saint Thomas is creating a seamless system of care for Clarksville, covering all stages of care, recovery and well-being,” Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas, said in the release. “This facility will be designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region and deliver high-quality care that helps patients regain their independence after serious illness or injury.”

Ascension Saint Thomas is a Nashville faith-based, nonprofit hospital system. On July 23, it was granted state Certificate of Need approval to build a 44-bed hospital in Clarksville, expandable to 132 beds. The $148.5 million investment will create approximately 250 healthcare jobs, and it’s expected to open in 2028.

What services will be offered?

The new inpatient Lifepoint Rehabilitation hospital will provide specialized care for adults recovering from debilitating conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, orthopedic trauma and other complex diagnoses. The facility will feature 40 private rooms and be staffed by interdisciplinary care teams, including rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.

The proposed hospital will also provide essential services for active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families, many of whom live in or around nearby Fort Campbell.

“This proposed new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Clarksville will build on our successful partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas and our shared commitment to expanding access to specialized rehabilitation services across the region,” Russ Bailey, president of Lifepoint Rehabilitation, said in the release. “We are honored to play a role in bringing this much-needed resource to the Clarksville community.”

Fourth addition to Ascension Saint Thomas campus

The 96-acre Ascension Saint Thomas Clarksville Health Campus at Highway 76 and Interstate 24 is being master-planned to provide a continuum of care, anchored by the full-service hospital and supported by outpatient surgery, advanced imaging, and a range of specialty services.

Beyond the main AST hospital, this marks the fourth announced health care facility planning to call the campus home. Both Tennessee Oncology and Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance have announced plans to build facilities there, and Montgomery County plans to build an EMS station.

Like the main Ascension Saint Thomas hospital, the rehabilitation hospital will require approval of a Certificate of Need with the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission. Pending approval, the rehabilitation hospital is anticipated to open in 2028.

Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Brentwood, Tennessee-based Lifepoint Health, has more than 45 freestanding inpatient rehabilitation facilities.
