CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library is partnering with the American Library Association to issue free library cards to the people of Montgomery County.

The modern library is more than just a place to check out books. Librarians provide important resources to families by teaching parents and caregivers the components of early literacy which help children develop the basic tools for school readiness.

Older students can access high-speed internet, digital tools and the opportunity to work with trained professionals on how to use them. Librarians provide guided training in digital media and grow digital literacy skills. They also provide equity of access to digital tools and media, which has become increasingly important in high-poverty areas where students are less likely to have a computer or internet access in the home.

Resources at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library hosts family story times, sensory friendly programming, and computer classes. This is just a small selection of programming available to students and their families. The library also offers free downloadable services and content such music and eBook programs for patrons.

The Library is also hosting their annual Design a Card contest.  This is a chance for library patrons of all ages to design a new library card.  The winner will have their design printed on a new library card!  The contest is open until September 30th. Card design templates are available at the library and on the library’s website.
