The Woodstock, New York Americana band, with deep roots in folk-rock and country, raises the bar for the Clarksville summer concert series.
Ruthy Ungar is the daughter of fiddle player Jay Ungar, best known for “Ashokan Farewell,” (the familiar theme for the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War).
Along with husband Mike Merenda, The Mike + Ruthy Band is described as “overstuffed with iconic Americana idioms ranging from Motown to Bluegrass, Old-time to Indie-folk; fiddles fly in jubilation, banjos skip with dexterity, ukuleles plunk with sass and the stories of the songs resonate as never before. Supported deftly by a veteran band of comrades, Mike + Ruthy’s hallmark harmony singing and top-tier songwriting that fans have come to expect from the duo is now bolstered by a rock solid bed of drums, bass, pedal steel and vintage horns.”
The Mike + Ruthy Band’s Clarksville show will be followed by appearances at Mountain Jam in Hunter, NY (along with Robert Plant) and the PBS series Music City Roots in Franklin (hosted by Jim Lauderdale.)
See them at Liberty Live! Friday, May 1. The music starts at 6:30 p.m. and concessions will be available for purchase.
Liberty Live is a free, summer concert series held at Liberty Park on the first Friday of May, June, and August.
Liberty Park is located on Cumberland Drive just off the US Alt 41 Bypass at Riverside Drive.
