For too many years, we’ve been represented by a part-time resident, who has denied us a voice in our legislature. Projects such as the restoration of Swan Lake should’ve received millions in funding from the state, yet we had to settle for a fraction because the incumbent didn’t fight for money that our taxpayers have paid. We need someone who will fight for Clarksville, and that person is Dennis Potvin.
Dennis has been my neighbor ever since I moved back to Clarksville, and I (and others) urged him to run. He has been married for 20 years, and has a masters degree from Austin Peay. He last ran for office in 1989… as treasurer of his senior class. That same year, he was nominated to Annapolis by his congressman, after becoming an Eagle Scout the year before. While some Democrats gravitate to the far left, Dennis is a realist. He talks about better wages, affordable health, teaching young people practical trades in school, and cleaning up our city. He has been vocal in his support of the Bottle Bill and of unions. His credibility makes an outstanding candidate.
Although he has worked in manufacturing for 24 years, it’s his charity work that made me suggest he run for office. No matter how busy he is, Dennis always finds time to give back. This past winter, as we enjoyed the holidays, Dennis spent every morning (for a week) supervising the warming shelter at New Providence United Methodist Church. He has a consistent desire to help others.
Dennis has the credentials and would be a great representative. As a factory manager, he knows how to unite people with a common goal. He would do the same in our legislation.
