CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Postal workers in Clarksville-Montgomery County as well as across the nation will do double duty Saturday, May 13 as they not only deliver the mail, they will also pick up your donations of food. Members of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will be holding their annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Very soon information cards and plastic bags will be popping up in mailboxes and it’s your chance to make donations of non-perishable food items which will stay right here in Clarksville to be given to Urban Ministries and Loaves & Fishes. In 2016, the local food drive raised close to 19,000 pounds of food.

Most food drives take place over the holidays but the NALC chooses this time of year to collect food in hopes it will carry the food banks throughout the summer. Another reason is that schools are closing and families that are in need are not supplemented by school lunches.

Executive Director of Urban Ministries, Beverly Dycus, talked about the support the agency gets from Stamp Out Hunger. “The annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive is at tremendous blessing to the food pantry at Urban Ministries, as it allows us to provide nutritious food to our neighbors in need. The food drive stocks our pantry shelves and carries us through the summer,” said Dycus.
