CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After an illustrious high school career, Montgomery Central’s Genesis Gilmore will be a permanent fixture at Legends Smokehouse & Grill in downtown Clarksville.
The 4-time state medalist and 2023 state champion was honored last Thursday night as the Montgomery Central wrestling program presented to the restaurant Gilmore’s shadow box that will be placed on the wall among other legends. The box includes a photo of Gilmore, an MC varsity letter, and a list of her accolades.
Legends manager Peter Hagewood was present to receive the shadow box from Montgomery Central program director Steve Heberer and girls’ head coach Corey Wright.
“I couldn’t think of a better place to display the accolades of a Montgomery Central legend than Legends BBQ!” said Heberer. “We, as a coaching staff, are honored to have been a part of her high school career and look forward to seeing how far she can go!”
Part of the evening also included the ceremonial signing for Gilmore and teammate Kharisma Graham to the Indian Hills Community College program in Iowa, the #1 women’s junior college program in the country.
Gilmore finished with 119 career wins in high school, taking 2nd at the TSSAA State Championships in 2020, 3rd in 2021, 2nd in 2022, and she won the state title as a senior this year. She was ranked as high as #6 in the country in USA Wrestling’s national high school rankings, reaching the national finals in the 16U division at the Fargo National Freestyle Championships in 2021.
Graham started wrestling as a high school junior, but quickly became one of the best in the state, earning a #6 ranking in Tennessee in her senior year and amassing a record of 35-7 before an injury cut her season short.
Gilmore and Graham will be roommates at Indian Hills and are heading off to the campus this week.
