CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The community is invited to visit downtown Clarksville this weekend to watch the High Roller Criterium bicycle series.
A criterium, or crit, is a bike race consisting of several laps around a closed circuit, the length of each lap or circuit ranging from about 500 to 1000 meters. In Clarksville’s case, the course is a flat four-corner course, .8 miles in length, with tight turns around Franklin Street, Public Square, Main Street, and Commerce Street, at S .2nd and S. 3rd Street.
Race Director Neil Baggett explains more about the race in our new podcast below:
The event will launch from Downtown Commons, 215 Legion Street, and include live music, a food zone, kids races, family activities and an after party. There will also be a Celebrity Big Wheel Trike Race that includes several local businesses and on-air radio talents. Ryan (Q108), Mo (Z975), and Jai (Beaver) will be participating. Ryan and Jai will also provide guest commentary throughout the race.
Spectators can watch the event from the Downtown Commons area and park in the garage across from the courthouse.
Eleven categories of races take place from 10 a.m. until 6:15 p.m., with race times ranging from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. Only registered racers who meet specific requirements can participate, but anyone is welcome to watch.
