CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Anyone with concerns about zoning codes within the city or county will be given the chance to listen, learn and speak at an upcoming Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission open house.
The RPC is set to hold the open house on Thursday, Nov. 21, to allow members of the community the opportunity to provide feedback on various zoning topics as the RPC aims to update the city and county zoning codes.
The open house is the first step in a 16-month process, according to RPC Director Jeffery Tyndall. Developers, builders and RPC staff members will be in attendance, along with consultants from the firm Houseal Lavigne, who is once again working with the RPC following the completion of the Comprehensive Plan.
“The Comprehensive Plan is the vision for the community that we worked for two years to develop, and it was just adopted this past spring by the city, county and the Planning Commission,” Tyndall told Clarksville Now. “But, in order to implement your vision, you have to have a set of tools that get you to that desired end state. The biggest tool we use is our zoning ordinance, or zoning resolution in the county. This is an opportunity to update that to get to that desired end state, which was set forth by the community.”
Tyndall said the things they’ll be looking at with this zoning update includes parking requirements, signage, landscaping, different uses, among other considerations. “Everything is pretty much on the table, and we’re going to try to modernize this code for the next 20 years,” Tyndall said.
Members of the public who attend the open house on Thursday will be able to ask questions, review information and leave opinions/ideas. An online questionnaire will also be released later this week, according to the RPC. The gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Civic Center, 350 Pageant Lane.
Next steps following Thursday’s open house include a community survey available through December. Then, Tyndall said he expects to have public engagement every two to three months while the zoning update process continues to unfold.
