Laura Bell Payne, age 83, made her final journey to meet her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2023. Laura was born to Ralph Slagle and Lena McMillian on March 25, 1940. She was the sixth of eleven children.
Laura and Lawrence Payne were married on September 7, 1957. They celebrated 41 years of marriage before his death on October 1, 1998.
She was affectionately known as Mom, Grammy, Grandma, G-Ma, Mammy, and Mrs. Payne. She leaves behind five children, Laura Beth Payne, L. HoBart Payne (Michael Huddleston), Joyce (Jois) Carbaugh (Curtis), Rose Philbrick (Michael), Donna Jones (Michael), and also a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren as well as many like-family and friends.
Laura was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. She was known for providing for the needs of others in deeds, thoughtfulness, and words of wisdom. She treasured time with her family and all children. She enjoyed working puzzles, playing cards, and eating liver & onions, and schnitzel.
Family will receive friends at Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home for visitation on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with service to follow. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Roseberry Cemetery in Mascot, TN at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Laura’s written wishes were that donations be made to Shriners, Tunnel to Towers, and Wounded Warrior Project.
