Ever wonder how to get those full, thick, long lashes that all the celebrities have? Well the answer is lash extensions. Lash extensions are a huge trend right now, and not just among celebrities. You too can have magnificent, voluminous lashes. The process takes a relaxing two hours or more depending on your individual lashes. No need to apply mascara and you may even feel comfortable wearing little to no makeup. You can sleep, shower, sweat, and even cry in them. Can you believe it?
So what exactly are lash extensions, you may ask? Lash extensions are semi-permanent lashes that shed with your natural lashes. This doesn’t mean that your lashes are falling out, but just like the hair on your head each hair has a life cycle. So when they shed it means the life cycle of that one hair has now ended so a new hair can grow in its place. The extensions are attached to each isolated lash one by one. The longevity of the lash extensions solely depends on the care given. To maintain a full set of lashes continuously, appointments for “lash fills” are required. Lash fills replace what lashes have shed. But don’t worry about sitting through two full hours again because the fills do not take nearly as long. It is recommended that “lash fills” be done between two to four weeks.
When applied by a lash professional lash, extensions are less damaging, unlike strip lashes and individual cluster lashes. Lash strips and clusters do not last long and you risk pulling lash hairs that are not yet ready to shed. This can possibly damage the follicle, stunting or halting hair growth. Every day mascara wear can cause lashes to dry out or cause the follicles to clog resulting in lash loss. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Cheap is easy on the pockets but cheap may not be so easy on the eyes.
Simple care for lash extensions is as easy as brushing your teeth. Always use gentle care. Wash your hands before cleansing your lashes. Use a cleanser recommend by your lash specialist to cleanse your lashes. Use eye creams, serums, or moisturizers sparingly around the lashes. Be sure to lightly blot the excess that has not absorbed within a few minutes of applications. Mascara is not recommended. However, for those who still can’t seem to wing away from the mascara, be sure to use water based mascara, approved by your lash specialist. Last but not least be sure to schedule your touch up lash fills to keep them looking full.
Your lash extension experience should not be done without a consult by a certified specialist. Do not shy away from asking to see a portfolio of your lash specialist. Your eyes are delicate and require trained expertise when receiving a service near them. After all you only have two eyes and they deserve the best treatment. Don’t you think?
