GULF SHORES, Ala. – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team got off to a solid start in the first day of its dual match with Belmont, being played Cypress Bend at the Craft Farms Golf Resort.

With three Lady Govs shooting 77 or below, they finished the spring’s first round with a 312 while Belmont fired a 323. Junior Amber Bosworth led the Lady Govs with a first-day 75 while senior Jessica Cathey and freshman Taylor Goodley shots 77s. Junior Morgan Kauffman and sophomore Sarah Struble ended with 83s.

The two-day dual match will conclude Thursday on the 5,996-yard Arnold Palmer-designed layout. Originally, the tourney was to be played Thursday-Friday but Friday’s impending weather saw the team’s two coaches, APSU’s Sara Robson and Belmont’s Lissa Bradford, elected to move up the match by a day.

The remainder of APSU’s women played as individuals, with sophomore AnnaMichelle Moore also shooting a sub-80 score at 78 while junior Morgan Gardner carded a 83, freshman Ashton Goodley an 84 and junior Kelsey Schutt had an 87.

Abbie Gregory and Megan Heath had 79s for Belmont.
