CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Kmart has announced that six locations in Tennessee will soon close, including the remaining Clarksville store off Wilma Rudolph Blvd.
Clarksville’s only other Kmart location closed in the spring.
Howard Riefs, media spokesperson for Sears Holding Corp., confirmed that the following Tennessee locations will close in mid-December:
5380 Highway 153, Hixson
3201 Austin Peay, Memphis
2491 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville
370 S. Illinois Ave, Oak Ridge
333 N Lowry Street, Smyrna
2780 Guthrie Highway, Clarksville
Liquidation sales will begin September 22.
“We have been strategically and aggressively evaluating our store space and productivity, and are accelerating the closing of unprofitable stores as we have previously announced,” Riefs said. “We often hear from our members who are disappointed when we close a store, but our Shop Your Way membership platform, websites and mobile apps allow us to maintain these valued relationships long after a store closes its doors.”
Riefs said those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores. Most of the associates are part time/hourly.
