CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville welcomed Chris Buerck, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Clarksville at the club’s most recent meeting.
Buerck talked about the work of the one-to-one mentoring organization in the local community.
“We pair youth facing adversity or at-risk youth with caring adults from the community who spend time with them in a one-on-one relationship,” Buerck said.
She said the agency hand picks the mentors to be with the children and support them through their entire relationship.
There is always a waiting list for children wanting that special person to become their Big Brother or Big Sister. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville has a chance for you to be a friend and mentor to a child.
BBBS offers programs like the Community Based and School-Based programs for matching children and adults also known as bigs and littles. The Community Based program matches take place on the volunteer’s schedule and outings with a little are based on common interests and hobbies.
School-based matches occur during the school day at the school. Those matches meet in designated areas at specific times and they play games, read, do homework, eat lunch, or simply talk.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is planning its trademark fundraiser, Bowl for Kid’s Sake, set for April 6 at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center. it’s time to get your team together with family, friends or coworkers consisting of five members and raise $250 for the organization.
Teams will be assigned a lane to bowl between noon and 5 p.m. Along with having a lot of fun you’ll receive a free T-shirt, door prizes and more.
You can also sign up and bowl as an individual and raise or donate $50 and be put on a team. Donations can be gathered online or in person. The theme this year is racing and it’s hoped the community will race to the lanes with Bowl for Kid’s Sake.
Back again this year as part of Bowl for Kid’s Sake is the Banker’s Challenge on March 12 at the Pinnacle. The event is a night where local banks and their employees come together for a night of fun to support the work of BBBS for children in the community.
