CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville celebrated the organizations 100-year anniversary ont Monday at the Downtown Commons.

The club, also known as the Downtown Clarksville Kiwanis Club, was chartered on May 18, 1920.

Around 40 members of the club, along with guests from the Hilldale Kiwanis Club joined in the brief gathering which included a visit from David Coulter, Governor-Elect and Dale Wiley Lieutenant Governor for the Kentucky-Tennessee Kiwanis District.

The club normally meets each Tuesday for lunch at First Baptist Church in downtown Clarksville.  The meetings which feature a guest speaker, have not been held for the past couple of months because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Kiwanis President Wes Sumner said some of the clubs dues go to pay for lunches for members and guests each week, but now there are other plans for that money.

“The money we have budgeted towards that for the past couple of months since we haven’t been meeting, the board has voted to donate those funds to the FUEL Program, and Kiwanis International is matching our donation with another $1,500,” said Sumner.

Sumner added the club wants to further the Kiwanis mission of making children’s lives better and that money goes to the kids right here in Clarksville-Montgomery County and we are glad to make that donation.

The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville hosts several fundraising events each year to support numerous nonprofit organizations and programs in the community.
