CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Janiya Johnson, a sophomore wrestler at Kirkwood High School, who just recently won the 155lb national championship this year, has been invited to the Who’s Number One (WNO) wrestling event in Pennsylvania. WNO only invites the top wrestlers from each weight class in the nation to compete at the event and for Johnson, it’s a testament of her hard work paying off once again.
“Being invited to WNO is a huge achievement, it represents the dedication and hard work I’ve put into this sport,” Johnson told Clarksville Now. “It’s a great opportunity to compete at a higher level, gain valuable experience, and to showcase my abilities against one of the best girls in the nation.”
The event will be held on Sept. 29, where Johnson will compete alongside the best of the best from around the country. Johnson’s Mother, Aasiya Johnson, could not be prouder of her daughter.
“Wow, what a year for Janiya,” Aasiya Johnson said. “From Women’s Nationals runner-up, to undefeated at National Duals, to Fargo National Champion. She has taken on the best wrestlers in the country and shown them this Tennessee girl is the real deal. She is only getting started!”
