CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kirkwood High junior receiver and kick returner Jadon Portis has been awarded Clarksville Now Player of the Week for his performance in the Cobra’s first-ever playoff win over Brighton.

Portis hauled in four passes for 42 yards, rushed once for five yards, but the most important stat of the night was his 91-yard kickoff return touchdown on the first play of the game.

“Earning the award means a lot,” Portis told Clarksville Now. “Without hard work and trusting God, nothing is possible. Motivation from my family and coaches to keep going helps me focus and really bring out the energy to perform well on the field. All praise to God for this accomplishment.”

Portis has been one of Kirkwood quarterback Miles Reding’s favorite targets this season.

He’s tallied 26 receptions for 407 yards and three touchdowns on the year, which included a program record 172-yard receiving performance against Henry County. Portis has 677 all-purpose yards this season.

“Jadon is a hardworking young man who is a spark plug for this football team,” said Kirkwood High head coach Chad Watson. “We are excited that we get him back for another year.”
