CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kirkwood High Cobras traveled to West Creek High School for each teams’ season opener of the 2025-26 high school football season on Friday.
Following delivery of the game ball by a Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter, the Cobras jumped on top quickly and never relented, winning 42-0 with a running clock in the second half. The Cobras play was highlighted by a four-touchdown performance from quarterback Miles Reding.

In a flag-heavy affair early, the Cobras started their first drive inside West Creek’s 15-yard line. Reding got the scoring started with a rushing touchdown from one yard out, which marked the only touchdown of the first quarter.
However, the second quarter was where the Cobras took over. Lloyd Lisenbee and Reding each scored on the ground, while Parker Keenan and Jayden Portis caught touchdowns from Reding, and in the blink of an eye, it was 35-0 with Kirkwood leading at the half.
“It felt good, our kids were prepped and came out ready,” Cobras head coach Chad Watson told Clarksville Now. “I wish we would have executed some things better, but I’m happy with our effort and physicality. Super proud of these kids, they have developed and worked hard, especially up front. Reding has worked hard this off-season (too), I think it’s clear he’s a step faster.”

Josiah Claybrooks added one more touchdown on the ground for Kirkwood on the second play out of the half, but that was all the scoring for the night. The Coyotes were able to get some offense going in the second half but couldn’t find the endzone. The Coyotes fall to 0-1 with a season-opening loss and hope to use this to learn more about their weaknesses and use it moving forward.
“I couldn’t have dreamt of the game going that way,” said West Creek head coach Micheal Booker. “I came in here talking trash, because I thought our guys were more prepared, but we didn’t perform the way I wanted tonight. They exploited some of our weaknesses, so we’re going to break down the film, and try to make some changes. It’s good to get exposed early.”
As for the Cobras, it’s a big inner-city win to start the season on the right foot, and something they hope to use as momentum heading into a rivalry matchup with Rossview High next week.
“The big thing for us is to evaluate the film,” said Watson. “We want to focus on the things we have to correct, then evaluate Rossview, and try to put a game plan together that helps our kids have a chance to be successful.”
