CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kirkwood High Cobras traveled to Kenwood High School for a Region 7-5A matchup with the Knights. The Cobras jumped out to an early lead and maintained it until the third quarter, which is when the contest was called due to lightning in the area. The game was called with Kirkwood leading 21-0, which moves them to 3-0 on the season.
Kirkwood senior wide receiver Talon Dillman had himself quite the first quarter, scoring twice on two long balls from quarterback Miles Reding to start the game.

Josiah Claybrooks found the end zone on the first play of the second quarter to extend the Cobras’ lead, but that was all of the scoring for the first half from both teams. The Cobras’ defense was dominant and always seemed to have someone in position to make a play.

“(I’m) so proud of our defense, they flew around and were aggressive,” said Kirkwood head coach Chad Watson. “We knew their quarterback was going to give us problems cause he’s such a good athlete, so hats off to them. We came out hot offensively, and our effort was great from the jump.”
The remainder of the contest was a defensive slugfest, with both teams playing sound, physical football, which continued to keep both teams off the scoreboard.
A lighting delay was then called in the third quarter, and after 40 minutes of trying to resume, the two teams decided to call the contest, and Kirkwood earned a region victory to continue their undefeated start to the season.
“We didn’t execute well from the opening kick,” said Kenwood head coach Jarhett Snead. “If you want to win games and beat good teams, you have to execute. There are a few good things we saw; we saw some young guys make some plays. We have to have a short memory, get ready for next week, and that starts now.”
As for Kirkwood, it’s their third straight 3-0 start to a season, and their third straight inner-city victory to start the year. For the Cobras, they’re happy with the win, but they know this team is far from their potential.
“We stalled offensively, and I’d like to fix that, but it’s always great to win a game,” Watson told Clarksville Now. “Talon had a great game, and Miles was slinging it early, which was great to see. We’re happy to be 3-0, but we have a big rivalry game against Northeast next week, and we’re on to that matchup.”
