CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –The Kirkwood Cobras hosted the Kenwood Knights at “The Pit” on Friday night for the final night of the regular season. An absolute classic of a game saw both teams trade the lead down the stretch before they headed to overtime, where the Cobras got just enough shots to fall and earned a 51-47 win to close their season with 21 wins, the most in their program’s history.
The teams were neck and neck throughout the entire game, with the lead never going up more than seven points the entire contest. The two teams were deadlocked at 23 come halftime and battled down the stretch. Kenwood’s Davon Martin sank a clutch mid-range jumper to tie the game with seven seconds left, and the two teams headed to overtime.
“We came out a little sluggish,” said Kirkwood head coach John Stigall. “We’ve been playing so many district games that mean a lot in the standings, it wore on us a bit. We settled in, but give them credit, they’re tough defensively, Coach Cronin does a great job with them.”
In overtime, Kirkwood’s paint presence got them the baskets they needed, and Armani Smith iced the game with a few free throws to earn the Cobras a win on the last night of the regular season. Despite the loss, Kenwood now looks forward to Friday, where they will face the Henry County Patriots in the district 14-4A semifinal.

“It was two really good teams competing at a high level; we just came out on the wrong end of it,” said Kenwood head coach Chase Cronin. “At the end of the day, the game was fun, but it doesn’t affect our standings. Having a week off before our next game is slightly scary, but we’re ready to move forward and put a run together in the postseason. What really matters starts next Friday.”
As for the Cobras, they secured the one seed in district 13-4A and await the winner of Rossview and Northeast on Friday. For Stigall, it’s all about continuing to be on an upward trajectory moving forward.
“We played like we’re used to playing towards the end,” said Stigall. “We just have to get healthy, stay fresh, and continue to get better. This time of year, you don’t stay the same, you either get worse or you get better.
