CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – It’s time for kids to head back to school and the Salvation Army in Clarksville and Hopkinsville have partnered with Target to help children get a better start for the new school year. Each child received an amount to spend of either $73 or $81.
It was a shopping spree at Target for over 30 youngsters Tuesday, September 30 as each one made their way through the store along with a volunteer picking up clothing and school supplies. Around 15 of the children were from Clarksville with about 20 from the Hopkinsville Salvation Army shopping for back to school.
Lieutenant Christopher Coulson with the Salvation Army in Clarksville said the children from the local shelter where given first chance at shopping for back to school. The remaining children were chosen from the organizations social service office in Clarksville. The children ranged in age from kindergarten to high school.
The Target shopping spree for back to school is a nationwide event for the store and the Salvation Army each year. Coulson praised Target for their support. “We can’t express our gratitude enough to Target for stepping up and showing the community that they care about education and they care about the children,” Coulson said.
Captain Mark Czanderna with the Hopkinsville Salvation Army echoed Coulson’s comments on Target’s help. “We are real blessed to have this privilege to come and let our children who are disadvantaged shop for school supplies. We’re amazed at what Target does,” said Czanderna.
