CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Clarksville-Montgomery County Library was filled with youngsters and those young at heart Sunday for what was called “A Stupendous Suesstastical Celebration of Reading” for Read Across America. The event was hosted by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Association.

Read Across America Day with the National Education Association was actually March 2, which would have been the birthday of Dr. Seuss, one of most influential authors of all time. Theodore Suess Geisel, died in 1991 at the age of 87. He wrote classic books like “The Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham”, just to name a few.

Everyone at the library enjoyed a fun afternoon of games and activities tied in with reading and Dr. Seuss stories. Guest readers included State Representative Joe Pitts, Montgomery County Commissioner Robert Nichols, Clarksville City Council members, Valerie Guzman and Deanna McLaughlin along with Director of Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools, Dr. B.J. Worthington.

Entertainment was provided by the Rossview Elementary School Honor Choir and the Northwest High School Choir. Tender Paws “Four Paws” for Reading was also there as children took turns reading to some of the dogs from Tender Paws.
