CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood Knights traveled to Northwest High School for the Vikings’ homecoming game and a Region 7-5A matchup on Friday. It was a defensive struggle early, but after Kenwood’s offense got going, they rolled, with quarterback Christian James accounting for four total touchdowns en route to a 31-0 win for the Knights.

The two teams traded punts early, with the first quarter coming to a close scoreless. However, to kick off the second quarter, Knights quarterback Christian James broke free for a touchdown run, then found Chris Simpson on the next drive two minutes later for a touchdown through the air.

Before the first half was over, James found Jayde Davis in the corner of the endzone for another score, and the Knights had scored three touchdowns in six minutes to hold a 19-0 lead at the half.

“We got our quarterback back from injury, and that was huge,” said Kenwood head coach Jarhett Snead. “James is a doggone good ball player, and we’re glad to have him back. We’re getting healthy, and that’s so important at this point in the season. Northwest did a good job running the ball, and our defense bent, but we never broke.”

In the second half, Northwest had a few good drives going, but could never find the endzone. James broke loose again late in the third quarter for his second rushing touchdown, and fourth total on the night, to extend the lead. Running back Brian Howard Jr. put a bow on it for the Knights, scoring Kenwood’s fifth unanswered touchdown to even the Knights’ record at 3-3, and 1-1 in the region.

“The kids fought hard,” said Northwest head coach Mark Hall. “We did a pretty good job running the football; we just shot ourselves in the foot, and we have to finish games like that. They’re hurt right now, but we’ll work this week and we’ll move on and be back for next week against Creek Wood.”

“There are some things we need to clean up, but I’m happy we got the win,” said Snead. “We have a rough road ahead, but I’m proud of my guys’ effort and intensity. We’re still getting better, and our guys are still eager to learn. That’s the most impressive part about these guys: They’re not satisfied.”
