CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kenwood High School senior Darrin Morris was declared the Youth Recipient for the Governors Volunteer Star Award for his work helping kids.

Morris is a student-athlete at Kenwood High who was a four-year varsity starter for the Knights football team.

Work with junior pro league

When he wasn’t playing the game he loves, Morris was busy helping the next generation of football players. One of his volunteer efforts included working with the junior pro league in Clarksville ages 5-11.

During his time supporting the league, Morris served in a variety of roles, including coaching on the sideline, operating the time clock and working concessions. Morris also collected entry tickets and moved the chains on the field.

“Regardless of weather conditions, he (Morris) was up early on weekends prioritizing younger children,” Golden said during the meeting. He said Morris provided players with the encouragement to not only succeed in the field, but in the classroom and in life as well.

Morris’ late father was a football player and coach who helped many young players.

“It’s important for me to honor my dad’s memory in a meaningful way,” Morris said. “If I’ve made a positive impact in the life of even one young man, I count that as a win. I plan to give back to my community throughout my life.”

KHS reads to elementary schools

Morris also joined his Kenwood High teammates traveling to elementary schools in their jerseys and reading to kids during the month of March.

Morris is also a member of the Omega Men’s Academy, National Honors Society and a junior deacon at Concord Missionary Baptist Chruch.
