CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW)- The West Creek Lady Coyotes traveled to Kenwood High School for the “Battle of the Mill” rivalry against the Lady Knights on Tuesday night. The Knights controlled the game from the opening tip, claiming a 68-45 win on their home floor to start district play.

Kenwood started the contest off hot offensively, scoring 25 points in the first quarter, led by nine points from guard Sy’Nya Seay, who finished the game with 17.

The Knights found offensive success in the post, as they only hit two three pointers in the first half, but got physical baskets inside. The Knights led 39-21 at halftime. Kenwood’s defensive was just as good in the first half, and that’s what Knights head coach Jemiah Harrison was most proud of.

“It always comes back to our defense, that’s the kind of team we are,” said Harrison. “We had good effort, energy, and attitude from the jump. Offensively, we took care of the ball and made shots when needed. As the year goes on, we’re young, so we’re blending together as we progress.”

However, when play resumed, the Coyotes didn’t go down quietly, as they began the third quarter on fire offensively. Center Charlee Nunn scored 7 points in the third quarter and led all scorers on the night with 25 points. The Knights quickly matched their opponent, however, with Ebene Hinton catching fire late for 10 second half points and ended with 17. In the end, the Knights cruised to a district-opening win against their cross-town rival.

West Creek’s coach declined to comment following the contest. As for Kenwood, Harrison is hoping this is an example of how the Knights can play moving forward, and not a one-game anomaly.

“They responded well to adversity,” said Harrison. “Credit to them, they got a lot of good shots, but we were able to weather the storm. At the end of the day, if we play like we did tonight, no one can stop us. It’s the simple things, play defense, take care of the ball, we’ll be in a good spot.”
