CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood Knights hosted the Northeast Eagles for a homecoming region matchup Friday. Kenwood jumped out to an early lead, and while Northeast mounted a comeback in the second half, it fell short, with the Knights earning a 33-21 victory, their first on the year, and ending a five-game skid.

Early on, Kenwood went to the air, with quarterback Jacoby Cox connecting with receiver Jayde Davis on a deep ball for the night’s first score. Cox ran one in himself to add to the lead, and the Knights tacked on one more before the half after Northeast got on the board, making it 18-6 at the break.

“We grew up a little tonight,” said Kenwood head coach Jarhett Sneed. “We came out with energy, executed, and built a lead. We’ve had a rough start, but that didn’t discourage them.”

The Eagles kicked off the second half with another touchdown, bringing them within one possession. Quarterback Phoenix Love orchestrated a long drive that was capped off by a Montrell Perry rushing touchdown.

Northeast head coach Deonte Weston thought his young team fought and played their hearts out for their late assistant coach, Tyree Vaughn, who passed away this week.

“We’re a young team, and we came out and fought,” said Weston. “Hats off to Kenwood, but we had a rough week here, and this team battled their hearts out for coach Ty. Win or lose, they did what they were supposed to do.”

Kenwood responded quickly with another touchdown and held the lead for the rest of the game, 33-21. It’s a huge win for the Knights and one that coach Snead hopes they can build on going forward.

“I’m proud of my guys tonight,” said Snead. “Mistakes were made, but we didn’t get to down and pulled out the win. Hopefully this is something we can continue with.”
