CLARKSVILLE, Tennessee. – A sidewalk construction project near the Kenwood Schools campus will require the Heritage Park skate park to close for
about two weeks.
In January, representatives from Tennessee Department of Transportation, Clarksville-Montgomery County schools, the City of Clarksville, DBS & Associates Engineering, Clarksville Gas & Water and contractor Adams Construction met for a preconstruction meeting to discuss the sidewalk project.
The effort is funded by TDOT’s Safe Routes to School Grants, which covers a network of sidewalks that begin near the entrance to Heritage Park, and continues to Kenwood High and Middle School.
The work will begin soon, and Heritage Park skate park will be closed from March 3-16.
The Safe Routes to School program promotes walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement, safety education and incentives to encourage walking and bicycling to school. Nationally, 10-14 percent of car trips during morning rush hour are for school travel. SRTS initiatives improve safety and levels of physical activity for students.
