CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Juneteenth is taking off as a holiday in Clarksville this year, with city and county government offices closed Friday, and two festivals planned Saturday.

City of Clarksville and Montgomery County offices will be closed, and employees will have a paid holiday on Friday.

Clarksville Transit System offices will be closed, but regular bus service will run on its usual schedule.

Clarksville Juneteenth Festival

The Clarksville Juneteenth Festival, coordinated by Manifest Magic: Black Girl Cooperative, will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center and Amphitheater, 1190 Cumberland Drive Extension.

The outside amphitheater will feature comedian DJ Pryor as well as musicians C-Funq and the Tina Brown Band.

Inside, the festival featurs a Black business expo, a spades tournament, an art gallery, and an “Our Voices” author workshop, curated by C. Monet Snow and Sharee Moore.

Joe Ann Burgess will present her recently published “Odyssey of Burt High School: The Evolution of Education of a Small Black High School in a Small Southern Town.” She wrote the book with Phil Winchell Petrie. Burgess and Petrie will hold a discussion and book signing.

Storyteller Tammy Hall, who was born in Clarksville in 1959 and went to New York City in 1985, will share freedom songs and tales of black liberation.

Also included will be a kids zone with bounce houses.

Clarksville Juneteenth Block Party

Tiffany Perkins and According to Plan Events are organizing the Clarksville Juneteenth Block Party from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Downtown Commons, 215 Legion St.

The event will include live music, vendors, family-friendly activities and special guest artist Tim Gent.
