CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Hot and humid weather will continue through the Independence Day weekend, with heat indexes climbing as high as 111 degrees and daily chances for afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
The Extreme Heat Warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday. That will be replaced with a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Saturday.
“Dangerously hot conditions will continue through Independence Day with heat index values peaking in the 105 to 112 range,” the NWS said. Overnight lows will remain warm, only falling into the mid- to upper 70s, the NWS said. Some relief has become available in Clarksville with the opening of several cooling shelters.
Wednesday’s high reached 97 degrees at 4 p.m. at Clarksville Regional Airport, with a heat index of 107. That’s the highest point yet this year. Tuesday’s high was 94 with a 104 index. Monday was much the same. Sunday hit just under 92, with a 103 index.
