Julia Van Cleve Marks Meadows, age 74, died December 27, 2024, on her farm in Port Royal.
Julia was born December 27, 1950, in Clarksville, Tennessee, to Dempsey Hunter Marks and Julia Jean Wilcox Marks. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Daniel McCloud Meadows, sister Constance Louise Marks, brother Robert Clive Marks, and her beloved pug, Rosco.
Julia is survived by her three children: Julia Wilcox Meadows Phares (Allyn), Robert Willis Meadows (Valerie), and Megan Lucille Meadows; all of Clarksville. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Robert Willis Meadows II (Paige), Ellie Suzanne Meadows, and Livia Grey Jones. In addition, she is survived by a Godchild, Charity Alley Nuckolls (David); several nieces and nephews as well as many special friends: Connie and John Foster, Bob and Gail Hudson, Ervin Brown, Elaine Joyce, Joyce Wooden, and her Grace Chapel Episcopal church family, all of whom she loved dearly.
Julia was a 1968 graduate of Clarksville High School and a 1972 graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where she majored in Zoology. She and her husband Dan started Dan Meadows Construction Company in 1973. After Dan’s retirement, she continued her role with Rob at Meadows Contracting, working in the construction industry for over 50 years.
Julia had many talents and hobbies including sewing, gardening, spending time with her children and spoiling her grandchildren. Julia was an avid reader, learner, curator, and collector of antiques, quilts, and plants. She enjoyed many farm adventures with her grandson and enjoyed making doll clothes with her granddaughters. She loved spending time repairing countless garments and meticulously preserving quilts for future generations. She loved working with her plants and flowers; she never met a flower she didn’t love. Julia was a lifelong Episcopalian and treasured her time at Grace Chapel Church.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Port Royal neighbors and friends: Connie Foster, Shiann Gammon, Sheryl Lizotte, Susan Marks, Gary and Jackie Kaiser, and Shawn and Melissa Carney. Special thanks to her caregivers: Shanica Robinson, Vicky Childs, Janese Fearon, Mary Merriwether, Brianna Baldwin, and Chantel Bayer for quickly stepping in to assist in allowing Julia to stay in her home.
