CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – It was a clean-up day Saturday for the 11-acre future site of Judy’s Hope on Second Street, across from Valleybrook Park. Close to 50 volunteers were at the location including Judy’s Hope board members, Coalition for Cause, Veteran’s United, Jenkins and Wynne, Providence Builders, 101st Airborne Division soldiers, as well as the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs.

When it opens, Judy’s Hope will be a small community of tiny houses for women and children experiencing homelessness. Founder of Judy’s Hope, Karen Powers, said it will be a place where women and children will have a chance to reorient themselves spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Along with housing, programs featured at Judy’s Hope will help women manage their routines and live independently.

Powers said the volunteers were helping to clear fallen trees from the property. Workers were busy on construction of the Judy’s Hope Community Center and the tiny houses. Powers said the Community Center will house their executive director, case manager, community kitchen, and a computer nook. The center will also have space for social workers to come and meet with women, hold Bible study groups, or for other meetings.

Progress on the tiny houses and the center is going great, Powers said. “They are going up super fast. As soon as we finish the framing of these first four tiny houses, we’ll go ahead and lay the foundation for the next four, so we’ll have eight tiny houses for our opening day.”

They are planning to open at the end of September.
