Joyce Lynn Childress, age 87, of Clarksville passed away Friday, October 4th, 2024.

Joyce was born June 30th, 1937, in Delight, Arkansas to the late Rural “Raymond” and Gertrude Owens. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, the late Retired CSM Dois Childress, her son, Mark Childress, and her brother, Louis Ray Owens.

She is survived by her children: Mike (Terri) Childress, Tim Childress, Debbie (Bubba) Osborne, and Lisa (Joey) Long; grandchildren: Justin Childress, Brittany (Jarrett) Grasty, Tyler Long, Hanley Long; great grandchildren: Cooper Childress and Oliver Grasty.

In 1955, Joyce married her hometown sweetheart Dois Childress. Together, they embraced the adventure of military life, traveling the world and raising five children. Joyce worked for over 30 years at the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), where she was known for her dedication, work ethic, and sassy and kind spirit. She attended Hilldale Church of Christ.

Joyce had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures. She found joy in gardening, watching SEC football, cheering on her Arkansas Razorbacks, and celebrating every holiday with abundant decorations and baking her favorite holiday treats. Her sense of style made her the “most fashionable grandma in the world” wearing her high heels and lipstick to every occasion. In addition, she was a tech-savvy person who loved texting her family and friends using lots of emojis.

Her love, strength, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In addition, there will be visitation on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 11:00 am until the hour of service at Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joey Long, Daryl “Bubba” Osborne, Jeff Young, Justin Childress, Tyler Long, and Jarrett Grasty.
