A graveside service for John Slate, age 83, of Clarksville, TN, will be Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sango Cemetery.
He passed away on August 29, 2024. John was born on November 6, 1940 in Clarksville, TN to Marion and Christine Slate. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1959 and served in the United States Army. John enjoyed fishing and watching football. He especially loved cheering on his UT Vols. He loved being around family and going to Moss’s to eat with his classmates. John enjoyed going to the YMCA, but not for the exercise, instead he loved socializing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by is brother, Raymond Slate and Phillip Slate and brothers-in-law Jack Smallwood and Bill Witt. John is survived by his loving wife, of 34 years, Susan Slate, children, Bruce Slate and Julie Prather; grandchildren, Allie (Hobie) Clabaugh, great- grandchild, Charlotte Clabaugh, siblings: Nancy (Al) Hazel, Martha Smallwood, Mary Witt, Penny (Dick) Huser, and Mark (Vicki) Slate; and 25 nieces and nephews.
