John Kurt Mayer, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Born in the small town of Ulmet, Germany, John was a Holocaust survivor who came to New York at age 10 to live with his loving relatives after losing his parents.

He moved to Clarksville in the early 1950s by way of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he was a proud member of the 188th Airborne Infantry Regiment. Here, he found a community and a home that he never wanted to leave. For 35 years, he owned and operated Prima Motors.

Besides his business acumen, most will remember his way with words and that he never met a stranger. He was able to distill wisdom in colorful sayings that will live on well past him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marianne and his brother, Al. John is survived by his sister, Joni (Israel) Brenner, daughters Olivia (Gene Rose) Mayer and Bernadette (Todd) Noble; grandchildren, Kristin (Michael) Cuddy, Payton (Oakton Reynold) Rose, Savannah (Rashawn) Wong, great-granddaughter, Nyla Wong, and nieces and nephews Daniel Brenner, Julie Brenner, David Mayer, Jodi Mayer-Rotblut, Alexander Schweinberger and their families.

A man of conviction and integrity, he was forever thankful for his family and many friends.

All who knew him are invited to attend a dedication in his honor at 2 p.m. on May 1st, his 90th birthday, at The Press, 200 Commerce St.

He will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
