CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Joe Shakeenab has been selected to fill the unexpired term of Ward 11’s City Council member following a second round of voting by seated members on Wednesday.

Council members originally met last week to vote on who should fill the Ward 11 seat, left vacant following the resignation of Ashlee Evans. The council narrowed their selection to two of five original candidates, but with two council members absent and one seat unfilled, they were unable to come to a consensus and went into recess until more members could attend.

Wednesday’s session went by much more quickly, with Shakeenab securing seven votes in the first round of selections.

“I’m honored to serve the people of Clarksville,” Shakeenab told Clarksville Now. “It’s time to start reading. It’s time to catch up. It’s time to see what’s going on, what’s on the agenda for the next meeting. It’s time to get involved.”

Shakeenab was sworn in immediately following the vote and will participate in the City Council’s next session, which is expected to be an executive, non-voting session on Thursday, March 31, at 4:30 p.m.
