CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Joe Creek has announced he is running for re-election to the Montgomery County Commission in District 11.

Creek, who is running as an independent, retired from the Army as a personnel officer at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. During his time in the Army, he served two tours in Vietnam, and he served in Germany and Korea.

“One of the most devastating experiences in my military career was the Dec. 12, 1985, Gander airplane crash. This involved 248 Fort Campbell soldiers. They all lost their lives. It was my responsibility of assisting with locating the next of kin,” Creek said.

He received the Gen. Horatio Gates Award upon his retirement. He was the 76th recipient of this award.

“As a commissioner I have served on several committees that have enabled me to gain knowledge of the county and its operations. I was deeply involved in helping to obtain the current property where several of the Montgomery County offices are located,” Creek said. “I have been involved in purchasing land for new schools. It also has been one of my top priorities to eliminate the portables within the school system.

“When chairman of the Bi-County Solid Waste System, I aided in negotiating a deal with Fort Campbell on trading land that was located next to the landfill that they owned in exchange for land that bordered them in Stewart County,” he said. “I have been supportive of our parks and recreational program. I want to develop Stokes Field into another family recreational facility.”

District 11 covers a section of northwest Montgomery County and south Fort Campbell between 101st Airborne Division Road and Dover Road, roughly to Evans Road and Garrettsburg Road.
