CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Goodwill will host several free events in Clarksville to celebrate Goodwill Week — May 5-11 — including a job fair and workshops for job-seekers.
Activities planned this year at the Career Solutions Center at 2001 Needmore Road in Clarksville include:
Tuesday, May 7: A Job and Community Resource Fair from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., featuring Goodwill, Wendy’s, R.E. West, BrightView Landscape, Progressive Directions Inc., Oak Plains Academy, Support Solutions, Campbell Strong, Bethel University, CCR&R, Signals Centers Inc., Heavy Equipment Colleges of America, Clarksville Area Re-Entry, Urban Ministries and others. More than 80 positions will be available, and rates of pay reach $30.
Wednesday, May 8: Job Readiness Workshop, 9 a.m.-noon; Interviewing Skills Workshop, 1-3 p.m.
Thursday, May 9: Basic Computer & Online Job Search Workshop, 9-11 a.m.; Resume Basics & Writing Skills Workshop, noon-2 p.m.
While the U.S. unemployment rate has hit record lows in recent months, many people still struggle with poverty, homelessness and lack of access to good-paying jobs. Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee’s mission is changing lives through education, training and employment.
Goodwill Industries Week has been observed by local Goodwill organizations for nearly 70 years. It was first celebrated in May 1951 as a way to encourage local Goodwill organizations to educate their communities about their mission of “helping people with disabilities help themselves.”
