CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Jimmie Garland Sr. has announced he is running as the incumbent for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board representative, District 5.

“As the incumbent, my run will be based on the knowledge I’ve gained from the years I served citizens, teachers and students of CMCSS as your elected representative,” Garland said.

“Being a lifelong Democrat, I chose to stay true to myself and be transparent to each of you who have supported me over the last 26 years of service to the CMCSS District 5. My declaring a political party has not and will not change my focus nor will it change my commitment to ensuring the physical needs of students and teachers who internalize our system.”

Garland pledged to continue advocating for better schools, more qualified and adequately compensated teachers, expanding the CMCSS academy system and demanding that every child is either college-prepared, work-ready or educationally equipped for gainful employment upon graduation.

“I am running in the 2026 primary election hoping you will support my candidacy to ensure public education continues to be affordable and viable to every student enrolled, that fair and equal education is afforded every student throughout the district/county,” Garland said. “Public education is the best way to ensure that every student is provided the social, mental and physical education needed as students graduate from either CMCSS or any public institution of learning,” he said.
