CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Jerry Haywood has announced his candidacy for the Ward 8 seat on the Clarksville City Council.

Born in Clarksville and raised as a military dependent, Haywood said his deep-rooted connection to the community and extensive experience in public service uniquely qualify him to represent Ward 8 effectively.

After spending many years moving across the United States with his family, Haywood graduated from Fort Campbell High School in 2013. He then attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, before enlisting in the Army as a combat medic. While in the Army, Haywood completed his bachelor’s degree in Sports and Health Science from American Military University and earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. He is currently working towards his doctorate in Public Administration.

Haywood is married to his high school sweetheart, Rebekah, and together they have three children.

“As a veteran, I understand the importance of discipline, teamwork and perseverance,” said Haywood. “These qualities have shaped my approach to problem-solving and my commitment to making a difference. I am excited to bring a fresh perspective to address the needs of Ward 8 and the City of Clarksville.”

Haywood’s campaign will focus on traffic and infrastructure, parks and recreation, and first responder salaries. Haywood said he is committed to ensuring that the voices of Ward 8 residents are heard and respected. If elected, he plans to hold town hall meetings a week prior to each council meeting to keep residents informed and engaged in the decision-making process.

“Most of all, I am looking forward to hearing from the community and advocating for what the community wants. I firmly believe in fostering strong community engagement and working collaboratively with local organizations, businesses and residents to develop policies that promote growth, equality and opportunity,” Haywood added.
