CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville welcomed one of their own members as speaker at their Tuesday meeting, Jeff Truitt, who is the Montgomery County Chief of Staff and is also currently the Interim Director for Bi-County Solid Waste Management.

Truitt talked about the recent emergency expansion for the landfill approved by the State of Tennessee which is underway right now that will provide space over the next two years for the 750 tons of garbage going into the landfill every day.

There are also two ponds that hold rainwater from the landfill that have to be finished by September 30. Three of the ponds to hold the rainwater are already done. “No rainfall that falls on that site can just leave the regular waterways. It must be contained by some type of erosion system,” said Truitt.

Former Bi-County Director, Pete Reed, recently announced his retirement which will take effect at the end of September. He was placed on administrative leave by the Executive Committee of the Bi-County Board of Directors.

The application process for a new Bi-County Director is underway and Truitt says at last check about a week ago there were a little over 20 applications for the position and said at this time he did not know if there were any local applicants.

On the issue of salaries for Bi-County employees, Truitt said the executive committee and board of directors has made the move to adopt and implement the existing Montgomery County pay matrix to get some employees into a step model similar to the county pay matrix.
