CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Jeff Burkhart, a lifelong resident of Clarksville, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to state representative, District 75.
Burkhart is a graduate of Northwest High School and received an associate degree in fire science from Volunteer State Community College. He was born and raised in Woodlawn, where he still owns his family farm.
“It has been my pleasure to serve the citizens of Clarksville, Montgomery County,” Burkhart said. “My lifelong commitment and experience serving this community will help me better represent the citizens as their representative for Tennessee District 75.”
Burkhart began his career serving the community in 1985, when shortly after graduation he was hired by the Clarksville Fire Department. He worked his way through the ranks to a leadership role as the assistant fire chief. Burkhart has also had a career in real estate development. He joined the Clarksville Home Builders Association in 1986 and served multiple terms as the local president. Burkhart also served as the president of the Tennessee State Home Builders Association in 2015 and was inducted into the Tennessee Home Builders Hall of Fame.
He was elected in 2008 to serve on the Clarksville City Council and served 12 years. During his tenure with the City Council, he was chairman of the Gas & Water and Finance committees along with being appointed as a board member of various other committees to include the Clarksville Department of Electricity. Additionally, he has served as a board member of the Montgomery County Education Foundation, and advisory board member of the Sexual Assault Center and many other community-related organizations.
Burkhart is a member of Hilldale Church of Christ. He is engaged to Cindy Greene and has one daughter, Meredith Burkhart, who attends Lipscomb University in Nashville.
District 75 was established this year through redistricting and covers roughly the western third of Montgomery County and the west side of Clarksville.
