CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Former Montgomery County Commissioner Jason Knight has announced his candidacy for the District 2 commission seat.
Knight resigned from the commission in July after serving 3 1/2 years. He resigned at the same time from the Clarksville City Council.
He is a 17-year Army veteran, having served nine years active duty at Fort Campbell. He now serves in Army Reserves. Knight has served in the military in various capacities, including two company commands and three combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a news release.
Knight said he is running again to assist in implementation of school security.
“I appreciate and support each of our SROs and I believe we need more of them. I also believe we should have other physical security measures implemented to ensure the safety of our children. With six of my children in the school system, keeping all of our kids safe is near to my heart,” Knight said in the release.
He said he will maintain transparency and provide every constituent the opportunity to have a say in the decision-making process.
Knight says he will also fight for individual property rights and fight to keep property taxes from being increased. “I have never voted for a tax increase and will continue to stand by that ideal.”
Knight has served on the City Investment Committee, City Legislative Liaison Committee, City Housing and Community Development Committee, Montgomery County Library Board as chairman, Animal Care and Control Committee as chairman, County Investment Committee, and County EMS Committee. Knight is also vice president of the APSU Military Alumni Chapter.
He holds a master’s degree in Information Systems Management from Grantham University, a Bachelor of Professional Studies from Austin Peay State University where he received a commission as an officer in the Army, and is in the dissertation phase toward obtaining his Ph.D.
Knight is married to Maribeth Knight and is the father of seven children.
