The guests of the Customs House Museum got to celebrate National Day of the Horse on Saturday, December 13th with special guest, Kelsey. The 20-year old appaloosa is one of the horses featured in Eric L Hansen’s mixed media art exhibit, Blood Rescue. Young museum visitors enjoyed brushing Kelsey and feeding her treats. The Season of Equine is on view through January 4th at the Customs House.

Join us this month to: make hand shadow puppets, illustrate Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem “My Shadow,” learn about sundials, find shadows in the museum, discover what causes shadows, and examine paintings of shadows. Activities vary weekly, so drop in often.

Art & Lunch Film
Cezanne: The Post Impressionists
January 15th, 12:05 pm

One of the most influential artists in the history of twentieth-century painting, Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) has inspired generations of modern artists. In his still-life paintings from the mid-1870s, Cézanne abandoned his thickly encrusted surfaces and began to address technical problems of form and color by experimenting with subtly gradated tonal variations, or “constructive brushstrokes,” to create dimension in his objects.

Film is approximately 50 minutes. Free admission to program. Bagged lunches welcome. Shown in conjunction with the exhibit Right Before My Eyes: A Still Life Invitational.

The Museum will be closed January 1st for New Year’s Day.
