James Ira Hamilton, Sr., age 78, of Clarksville, TN, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, October 15, 2015, after an extended illness.
James was born February 10, 1937, in Moultrie, GA. He was a member of First Baptist Church, in Clarksville, TN. James had an extensive career as a farrier and trainer of Tennessee Walking Horses and was a respected long-standing member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. Mr. Hamilton owned and operated his paint and body business in Montgomery, AL for 25 years and enjoyed doing restorative work on classic cars. James also loved gardening and outdoor work.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 18, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, October 21, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, in Prattville, AL. Graveside service will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
James is survived by his loving wife, Angeline “Ann” Hamilton of Clarksville, TN; daughter, Lynda Kaye (Sid) Johnson of Prattville, AL; son, James “Jim” I. (Rachel) Hamilton, Jr. of Hope Hull, AL; stepson, Scott Thompson of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Jason Johnson, Blake Ferrall, Baylea Hamilton, and Beau Hamilton; five sisters, Carolyn Mitchell of Moultrie, GA, Ruth Chandler of Clarksville, TN, Lois Smithwick of Nashville, GA, Mary Giles of Moultrie, GA, and Martha Wilkerson, of Nashville, TN; and three brothers, Jimmy Hamilton of Mechanicsburg, PA, Raymond Hamilton of Orange Beach, AL, and Charles Hamilton of Macon, GA.
James was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jo Smith Hamilton; parents, Roscoe and Lora Giles Hamilton; two brothers, Bennie Hamilton and Dannis Hamilton; and one grandson, Jamie Johnson.
