CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Assistant Public Defender James Bagby has announced his candidacy for General Sessions and Juvenile Court judge, Division II. Running as independent, Bagby will be on the Aug. 4 ballot.

Bagby has called Clarksville home since he was a teenager and has practiced law here since 2008. Bagby gained experience in multiple areas of the law including civil litigation, Social Security disability and trial law. In 2016, Bagby left private practice to become an assistant public defender in Montgomery County General Sessions Criminal Court.

As a bilingual candidate, Bagby will be able to better communicate with the people who come through the courtroom as defendants or victims. Bagby’s announcement touted his communication and legal skills.

“I have worked with people from all walks of life and extensively with the underserved population. My perspective allows me to be an independent and impartial thinker, skills which every judge must exhibit,” Bagby said.

Bagby graduated from Fort Campbell High School and then completed his Bachelor of Arts at Austin Peay State University in Foreign Language. He spent several years as an adult probation officer in Montgomery County before becoming a law clerk while going to Nashville School of Law.

Bagby and his wife, Tiffany, have two daughters: Belle is a junior at APSU, and Savannah is a sophomore at Auburn University.

Bagby stated, “After serving Clarksville and Montgomery County as a civil servant for years, I now humbly ask for your vote to be a judge.”
