Question: It’s my first time getting filler. What should I know?
Answer: If you’re considering dermal filler for the first time, you’re likely full of questions – and that’s a good thing. At Bella Medical Spa, our goal is to ensure you feel informed, confident and comfortable every step of the way.
Filler is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation, and with the right approach, it can subtly restore volume, soften lines, and enhance natural features. But like any medical aesthetic treatment, education and customization are key.
What are dermal fillers and how do they work?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels—typically made from hyaluronic acid (HA) – used to restore lost volume, smooth lines and enhance facial contours. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps retain moisture and elasticity.
At Bella, we offer two of the industry’s leading filler families: Juvederm and Restylane. Both are FDA-approved and used worldwide for their proven safety and effectiveness.
Filler is not one-size-fits-all
One of the most important things to understand about filler is that there isn’t just one kind. Different areas of the face require different products depending on how much movement there is, how deep the filler is placed, and what kind of result is desired.
Both Juvederm and Restylane offer a range of formulations with different viscosities and lifting capacities. For example:
- A firmer product might be used in the cheeks for structure and support.
- A softer, more flexible filler could be selected for lips or under-eyes where the skin is delicate.
- Specialized formulas are designed for fine lines around the mouth or to define the chin and jawline.
Our experienced injectors are trained directly by the makers of Juvederm and Restylane and have extensive knowledge of how to select the right filler for each specific area and goal.
What if I’m nervous about pain or discomfort?
It’s completely normal to be a little nervous, especially if it’s your first time. At Bella, we offer several comfort options to help put you at ease:
- Topical numbing cream applied before treatment.
- Pro-Nox (laughing gas) for those who are anxious or sensitive to discomfort.
- Slow, precise techniques to minimize sensation and bruising.
Most treatments take 20 to 30 minutes, and while some swelling or tenderness is common, most patients return to normal activities the same day or next.
