CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High Hawks hosted the Bartlett Panthers for a sub-state win-or-go-home matchup, with a trip to the state tournament in Murfreesboro on the line. The Panthers took advantage of two opportunities, and despite great effort from the Hawks, they couldn’t find the back of the net, falling 2-0, which ended their season.
The first half was a defensive battle early on. Rossview senior goalie Jacque Collins was locking down his net, and for thirty-six minutes the score remained 0-0. However, in the 37th minute, a Bartlett shot was deflected in the box, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the halftime break. Starting in the second half, Rossview got a red card rather quickly and played most of the second half undermanned.
“The red card changed everything,” said Hawks head coach Seth Ramsey. “We knew we were going to be under pressure, we game planned for that, and handled it overall well. We just couldn’t string together the attack and couldn’t find the extra little moment for a goal.”
Despite being a man down, Rossview continued to fight, but ultimately couldn’t get a goal on the board. The Panthers netted one more goal late for insurance and secured their spot in the state tournament. For the Hawks, their season comes to an end, but it’s another season of championships, and a group of seniors that Ramsey said it will be hard to play without.
“These guys did everything we asked them to do,” said Ramsey. “They’re coachable, they work hard, and I will always love this team. That’s what makes it hard and tough for me, is this is a great group of guys, and it’s going to be hard to say goodbye.”
