The autumnal equinox began today, Tuesday, Sept. 22, and that means it’s fall y’all!

Fall kicks off many people’s favorite season, marked by cozy sweaters, boots, apple and pumpkin spices and several outdoor activities.

Temperatures begin to dip into the 50s following an earlier, golden sunset. Trees will begin to fade into reds, yellows and oranges against the twilight, and fire pits across the county will start to glow.

Here are three fall activities to enjoy in Clarksville and Montgomery County or nearby this season.

Hiking and walking

Enjoy the natural colors of the season with a walk or hike through one of the area’s many natural parks.

Enjoy the crisp fall air, warm sunshine and sounds of nature as you walk Billy Dunlop Park or the Clarksville Greenway, or bike or hike the trails of Rotary Park.

Check out all the Parks and Trails the City of Clarksville offers here.

Montgomery County offers several options as well. Click here for more information.

Pumpkins and Apples

  • Boyd’s Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze has been serving up family fun since 1984. They offer a variety of pumpkins, winter squash and a 6-acre corn maze to zig-zag through. Located in Clarksville at 1425 Highway 76, they are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting. For more information, visit their website.
  • Shade Tree Orchard is just a 30 minute drive from Clarksville. The orchard, which is open in the 2020 season, boasts apple, peach and pear trees to pick from and features a farm store selling treats like cider slushies and baked goods. Shade Tree is located at 2087 Kinneys Road, Adams, Tennessee, and their hours are Thursday-Sunday 10-5. Check their website for more details.

Bonfires

There’s nothing like a bonfire. Whether you are just enjoying the soft glow or roasting marshmallows, you want to remember to do it safely.

Never start a bonfire using gasoline, kerosene, or garbage or garden waste. Only use seasoned wood or charcoal.

Also, never leave a fire unattended, keep  a safe distance and make sure children and pets are supervised at all times.

Keep a first-aid kit and fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergency.

Correction: Coal Creek Orchard located at 22850 Coal Creek Road, Hopkinsville is closed this year. Check their Facebook page to pre-order apples.
