CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – It was a busy time for Loaves & Fishes volunteers in Clarksville Saturday with a steady line for a drive-thru Cajun meal at the Louisiana Saturday Night.
Each meal included chicken and sausage gumbo, rice, coleslaw and a roll along with a praline for dessert. The guest chef this year was Wayne Abrams from Hilldale Family Life Center with the pralines prepared by Gateway Christian Church.
The event was a little different this year with over concerns of COVID-19. In the past, dine-in meals were also enjoyed in the Loaves and Fishes dining room as well as drive-thru. Social distancing was being practiced and plastic gloves and hand sanitizer were available for safety.
It was the 15th year of the event for the organization and one of the last that will be held at the 215 Foster Street location as Loaves and Fishes prepares to make the move to their new site at 825 Crossland Avenue in the near future.
Tamara Long with Loaves and Fishes said they served close to 400 people and it was the first year of the event it was sold out. Long added the proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the needs of the larger state-of-the-art kitchen in the new building.
