CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Wildcats traveled to Northeast High School to take on the Eagles in a region 7-6A matchup on Thursday, Oct. 31.

While Northeast looked to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the season, it became a night of history for Clarksville High. In route to their 50-7 victory over the Eagles, the Wildcats completed their second consecutive undefeated regular season, but that’s not all. CHS head coach Isaac Shelby also clinched his 69th win with the program, which makes him the all-time winningest coach in Clarksville High history. Shelby also won his 100th game of his head coaching career on Thursday night.

Clarksville High established the tone early into the matchup, which began with two rushing touchdowns from senior running back James Dalrymple within the first six minutes of the game. Jack Stein, Ahvare Galbreath and Jamarcus Watkins all scored a touchdown before the half as well, as the Wildcats built a comfortable 36-0 lead going into intermission.

Shelby told Clarksville Now that the team needed to work on situational football, espcially with the playoffs right around the corner. “You may get to a point at the end of the game where you need to execute, and we did that well tonight,” Shelby said.

Northeast ended the game on a high note, however, as quarterback Phoenix Love found a wide-open Jonas Veasy in the fourth quarter for a receiving touchdown. In the end though, the Eagles fell 50-7 bringing an end to Deonte Weston’s first season as the head coach for NEHS. While the result might not have been there tonight, Weston is beginning to change the culture on Exit 1 and continue that process this off-season.

“This offseason, we are going to get this culture right,” said Weston. “We’re going to get in the weight room, and we have to learn to fight. Their so used to certain results, but there’s a lot of returning talent on this team. The future is very bright.”

As for Clarksville High, Shelby celebrated the win for the Wildcats at the school where he began his coaching career, almost too fitting of a place for him to earn his 100th career win.

“This place was the first place that gave me a shot,” said Shelby while speaking on Northeast High. “I’ve been lucky to have a lot of good guys on my staff and good players that played hard for us.”

Now, the Wildcats turn their attention to the postseason, where they will host either Whitehaven, Germantown or Bartlett. While last year’s team fell in the first round, it’s all about taking the next step, said Shelby.

“We led last year for 47 out of 48 minutes. The four teams that come out of that region are fantastic teams, it’s a weird draw with geography. We just have to fight hard, do what we do, and see what happens at the end,” Shelby said.
