Irene R. Armistead passed into glory on March 9, 2015 at Clarksville Nursing and Rehab.
She was born on July 11, 1921 in Oceola, Arkansas to the late Johnnie and T.L. Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernard B. Armistead; son, Nardy Armistead; brother, James Russell; sisters, Louise McCraw, Ruth Dillon, Blanche Crouch, and Dorothy LaValla.
She is survived by children, Patsy (George) Ketch, Bobby (Lucy) Armistead, and Pam Armistead; grandchildren, Tad (Pam) Ketch, Tammy (John) Shields, Terry (Ann) Ketch, Tracy Armistead, Smith Armistead, Robin Armistead, Heather Armistead, and Jessica (Steve) Cortez; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Her father died when she was nine years old, so she had to go to work as soon as she was old enough to help support her family. She also worked alongside her husband, Bernard, at the family business, The Pullman Café, Sea & Sirlion Restaurant, Dancy’s Studio, which later because Armistead Photo Service, Montgomery County School System, and last, but not least, keeping children in her home, always loving them.
To extend that love for children, family request any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. She chose to donate her body to Vanderbilt Hospital for medical research.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Clarksville.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Clarksville Nursing and Rehab for the excellent care they have provided plus the love they had for her. Also thanks to Tennessee Quality Hospice (Crystal Shaw) for their love and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
